Why wasn’t Ecuadorian coffee reaching Norway?

As someone raised between Norway and Ecuador, I had the privilege of experiencing two cultures that shaped who I am. Norway taught me the importance of quality, trust, and long-term relationships. Ecuador introduced me to extraordinary people, breathtaking landscapes, and coffee grown with generations of dedication and pride.

Yet despite Ecuador’s remarkable coffee potential, I found that its presence in the Norwegian market had become increasingly limited. An origin capable of producing exceptional specialty coffee was receiving far less recognition than it deserved.

I believed that could change.

In 2023, I founded NOEC International with a vision that extended far beyond importing coffee. The goal was to build lasting trade relationships between Ecuador and the Nordic region—relationships founded on transparency, mutual respect, and shared success.

What appeared to be a simple idea quickly became a journey that would test every aspect of determination.

Over the past three years, we have worked tirelessly to establish a reliable supply chain between two countries separated by more than geography. We navigated export regulations, certifications, logistics, customs procedures, quality control, financing, and countless unforeseen challenges. Every obstacle became an opportunity to learn, improve, and strengthen the foundation we were building.

There were moments when progress slowed, plans changed, and the easier choice would have been to walk away.

We never did.

Because this journey has never belonged to one person alone.

It belongs to the coffee producers who continued believing in their craft.

It belongs to the farming families who welcomed us into their communities and shared generations of knowledge.

It belongs to our partners in Ecuador who searched for solutions instead of excuses, and to the businesses in Norway that believed in our vision long before the first shipment arrived.

Together, we proved that meaningful international trade is built on relationships before transactions.

One of our proudest milestones has been helping reintroduce Ecuadorian coffee to the Norwegian market. While Ecuador has long been recognized for producing exceptional coffee, its visibility in Norway had diminished over time. Today, we are proud to contribute to a renewed presence, creating opportunities for Norwegian businesses to discover an origin that deserves its place alongside the world’s finest coffee-producing regions.

But coffee is only the beginning.
